The short version
- Splitscreen is 18+. If you are under 18, you may not use it, and we will remove your account when we find out.
- Treat people the way you would want a stranger to treat you in voice comms at 1am. Harassment, sexual content involving minors, scams and impersonation end an account.
- You own what you post. You give us permission to display it on Splitscreen so the product can work.
- We do not run criminal background checks on anybody. Meet strangers carefully.
- We are not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by any game publisher. Game names and artwork name the game and nothing more.
- We can remove any account at any time, for any reason or for no reason, with or without notice. Access to Splitscreen is a privilege we grant and can withdraw — it is not something you own.
- You can delete your own account whenever you like, from the account page.
This summary is here to be read. It is not part of the agreement, it is not a substitute for the sections below, and where the two differ the sections below are what binds.
01Who we are
Splitscreen is a product of Sterango LLC, a Texas limited liability company. In these Terms, “Splitscreen”, “we”, “us” and “our” mean Sterango LLC. “You” and “your” mean the person using the service.
“The service” means the website at splitscreen.gg, the logged-in application, the voice rooms, and everything we offer through them.
02Accepting these Terms
By creating an account, or by using the service in any way, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree to them, do not create an account and do not use the service.
You are agreeing to all of it, including the parts that are least convenient for you: section 12, under which we may remove your account at any time and for any reason or none; section 18, which limits what we owe you if something goes wrong; and section 20, under which Texas law governs and Texas courts hear any dispute.
If you are using Splitscreen on behalf of an organisation, you confirm you are authorised to bind that organisation, and “you” means both you and it.
03You must be 18 or older
Splitscreen is an adult service. You must be at least 18 years old to hold an account. There is no version of the service for minors, no supervised mode, and no exception.
Every account gives a date of birth before any room opens, and that check runs on our servers rather than in your browser. Giving a false date of birth to get in is a breach of these Terms, and it is the kind of breach we treat as final rather than correctable.
If we believe you are under 18
We will remove the account. We do not need proof that would satisfy a court, and we are not required to give you an opportunity to show otherwise before we act — a reasonable belief is enough, and we would far rather be wrong about an adult than right about a child. If you believe we have removed an adult account in error, write to support@splitscreen.gg; we will look, but nothing obliges us to restore it.
04Your account
You need an account to use the service. When you make one you agree that:
- the information you give us is true, and you will keep it that way;
- the account is yours alone — you will not share, sell, rent, lend or transfer it, and you will not let anyone else use it;
- you are responsible for your password and for everything done through your account;
- you will tell us at support@splitscreen.gg as soon as you think someone else has got into it;
- you will hold one account at a time. Additional accounts, and accounts made to get around a removal, may all be removed.
Your gamertag is your public identity here. We never ask for your legal name, and we do not display one. That is a design choice about privacy, not an invitation to impersonate someone else — see section 6.
05What Splitscreen is, and is not
Splitscreen introduces people to each other around games. It has three rooms — Groups for teammates and squads, Social for communities and their standing game nights, and Dating for people looking for a partner. You choose which of them you are in, and you can change your mind at any time.
Splitscreen is not:
- a background-checking service, an identity-verification bureau, or a safety guarantee of any kind;
- a party to anything you agree with another member — including any meeting, trade, payment, tournament or arrangement;
- an escrow, payment processor or intermediary for money moving between members;
- affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by or a partner of any game publisher, developer, platform or studio whose games appear on the service. Game names and artwork identify the game and nothing more — see section 14.2.
06Rules of the rooms
These apply everywhere on Splitscreen — profiles, prompts, photographs, squad and community descriptions, messages, voice rooms and display names alike.
Do not
- Harass, threaten, stalk, intimidate, degrade or bully anyone, or encourage anyone else to.
- Post or send sexual content involving anyone under 18, in any form, real or drawn or generated. This is the one rule with no context, no first warning and no appeal, and we report it to the authorities.
- Send sexual content to anyone who has not asked for it, in any room.
- Post hate speech, or attack people over race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, disability, illness, age, sex, gender identity or sexual orientation.
- Impersonate another person, a staff member, or an organisation, or misrepresent your age, identity or affiliation.
- Run scams, phishing, advance-fee schemes, crypto or investment pitches, sugar-dating arrangements, or any other attempt to get money out of members.
- Advertise, spam, recruit for a business, or use the service to sell anything, including accounts, boosting, carries or in-game goods.
- Offer or solicit commercial sexual services.
- Post anything unlawful, or anything you do not have the right to post.
- Share another person’s private information — their address, workplace, legal name, phone number, or anything else they have not made public themselves.
- Record, transcribe, screenshot or republish someone’s voice or private messages without their agreement, except to make a report to us or to the authorities.
- Scrape the service, run bots against it, automate accounts, or collect member data by any automated means.
- Probe, break, overload or work around our security, rate limits, moderation, age checks or access controls, or help anyone else do so.
- Upload malware, or link to it.
- Use the service to build or train a dataset or model, or resell any part of it.
Photographs
Where the service lets you upload a photograph, it must be of you, it must not be sexually explicit, and you must have the right to use it. Photographs of other people, of children, of strangers, or lifted from elsewhere will be removed and may end the account.
Conduct off Splitscreen
What happens between members after they leave Splitscreen — in a game, in a Discord, in person — is not something we can police, and we make no promises about it. But we may still act on an account because of it. If we learn that someone has harmed or endangered a member elsewhere, we may remove them here, and we do not need the incident to have happened on our service to do so.
07Your content, and the licence you give us
“Your content” means everything you put into Splitscreen: your gamertag and display name, your bio, your prompt answers, your photographs, your squad and community descriptions, your messages, and anything else you submit.
You keep ownership of your content. We do not claim it.
So that the product can actually work, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, transferable and sub-licensable licence to host, store, copy, reproduce, adapt in format, transmit and display your content — but only for the purposes of operating, securing, moderating and supporting Splitscreen. That licence exists so that a photograph you upload can be shown to a member you matched with and a message you send can arrive. It is not permission to advertise with your face.
The licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except that:
- copies may remain in backups for a limited period before they are overwritten;
- a message you have already sent stays visible to the person you sent it to, in the same way a sent text does; and
- content retained as part of a safety report, a moderation record or a legal obligation is kept as described in the Privacy Policy.
You confirm you have the rights to everything you post, and that posting it here breaks no law and no one else’s rights.
We are not obliged to review, moderate, store or back up your content, and we may remove any of it at any time under section 12.
08Voice rooms
Squads have voice rooms. Audio is carried in real time through a third-party media service and is not recorded or stored by us. That means two things worth being clear about.
First: because we do not record it, we usually cannot verify what was said in a voice room. A report about voice is investigated on what we can see — the accounts involved, the pattern of reports, what else those accounts have done. Sometimes that is enough to act, and sometimes it is not.
Second: other people in the room can hear you, and nothing on our side stops someone recording on theirs. Treat a voice room as a room with strangers in it, because that is what it is.
09Linked accounts and third parties
You may link accounts on other platforms — a Steam profile, a music service, social handles. Linking is optional, you choose what to link, and you can unlink at any time from your account page.
When you link something, you authorise us to receive the specific information that connection provides and to show it on your profile as described at the time. Those services are run by other companies under their own terms and privacy policies; we do not control them and are not responsible for them. If a service changes, breaks or closes, the feature that depends on it may stop working, and that is not a breach of these Terms by us.
10Verification and badges
Some accounts carry badges. A badge means a specific check ran and passed — for example, that a platform account was proved through that platform’s own sign-in. Nothing self-declared earns a badge.
A badge is a signal, not a warranty. It does not mean we have identified the person, vouched for them, or checked their history. Do not treat a badge as a reason to trust someone with your safety or your money. We may add, change, withhold or take away badges at any time, and we may retire a check entirely.
11Reporting, blocking and moderation
You can block any member, and you can report any member from wherever you can see them. Blocking is immediate. Reports go to our moderators.
We decide what to do about a report at our discretion. We may act, or decline to act, on any report. We may act on our own initiative with no report at all. Depending on what we find we may do nothing, warn, limit an account’s standing, restrict features, remove content, suspend, or permanently remove — and we may skip straight to the last of those.
We are not obliged to tell you the outcome of a report you made, to tell a reported member who reported them, or to explain a decision to anyone. Reporting someone in bad faith, or filing reports to harass, is itself a breach of these Terms.
If someone is in danger
Contact your local emergency services first. We are a small team and we are not an emergency service; a report to us is not a substitute for calling one. Then tell us at support@splitscreen.gg so we can act on the account.
12Removal, suspension and termination
Read this one
We may suspend, restrict, hide, or permanently remove your account, your profile, your photographs, your messages, your squads, your communities and any other content you have placed on Splitscreen at any time, for any reason or for no reason at all, with or without notice, and without any liability to you or to anyone else.
We are not required to give you a reason, to give you a warning, to give you an opportunity to respond, or to apply the same decision to two people who did the same thing. No appeal, review, reconsideration or reinstatement is guaranteed, and asking for one does not create a right to one.
12.1 Access is a privilege, not property
Your access to Splitscreen is a personal, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable permission that we grant and may withdraw. It is not an ownership interest, not a property right, and not a contract for a term. You have no expectation of continued access, of any particular level of service, or of keeping any account, gamertag, match, conversation or piece of content.
12.2 What we may act on
We may act because of something you did on Splitscreen, something you did elsewhere, something we have been told, something our systems flagged, a legal or safety obligation, or a judgement call about risk to other members or to us. Nothing in these Terms limits the grounds on which we may act, and no list anywhere on this site — including the rules in section 6 — is exhaustive or restricts the rights in this section.
12.3 What removal means
- Your access ends, immediately and without notice.
- Your profile stops being visible to other members.
- Your matches, conversations, squad memberships and community memberships end.
- Any amount you have paid is not refunded, except where a refund is required by law.
- We may keep records of the account and of the reason we acted, as described in the Privacy Policy — a removal that leaves no record is a removal we cannot enforce.
12.4 Coming back after a removal
If we remove you, you may not create another account, use someone else’s, or return under a new gamertag, email address or device, unless we tell you in writing that you may. Doing so is a further breach, and every account involved may be removed.
12.5 Leaving on your own terms
You may stop using Splitscreen at any time, and you may delete your account yourself from the account page. Deletion is permanent and we cannot undo it. What happens to your data afterwards is set out in the Privacy Policy.
12.6 Closing the service
We may change, suspend or discontinue Splitscreen — in part or entirely, for one person or for everyone — at any time, without liability. If we shut the service down we will make a reasonable effort to give notice first, but nothing requires us to.
12.7 What survives
Sections 7, 14, 17, 18, 19, 20 and 22, and this section, survive the end of your account however it ends.
13Fees and paid features
Splitscreen is free to join today. We may introduce paid features later. If we do, we will describe the price and what it buys before you are asked to pay, and paid terms will be added here or presented at the point of purchase.
Payments are not refundable except where the law requires it, and a removal or suspension under section 12 does not entitle you to a refund of anything already paid.
14Intellectual property, trademarks and non-affiliation
14.1 Ours
Splitscreen, the Splitscreen name and logo, the site, the application, its design, code, text and artwork belong to Sterango LLC or our licensors, and are protected by copyright, trade mark and other laws. These Terms give you permission to use the service, and nothing more — no ownership passes to you.
You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, lease, reverse-engineer, frame, mirror or create derivative works from any part of the service, or remove any notice from it, except where the law says you may despite this paragraph.
14.2 Theirs
Not affiliated with any game publisher
Splitscreen is not endorsed by, directly affiliated with, maintained, authorised or sponsored by Electronic Arts Inc., Activision Blizzard, Inc., Riot Games, Inc., Valve Corporation, Ubisoft Entertainment, Epic Games, Inc., Bungie, Inc., Capcom Co., Ltd., Microsoft Corporation, Sony Interactive Entertainment, NetEase, Inc., or any other game publisher, developer, platform or rights holder whose games, titles or marks appear on this service.
All content, game titles, trade names and/or trade dress, trademarks, artwork, logos, characters and associated imagery are trademarks and/or copyright material of their respective owners. The list of companies above is illustrative and not exhaustive; every mark not owned by Sterango LLC belongs to whoever owns it.
Game names, marks and artwork appear on Splitscreen for one reason: to identify the game a member plays, so that another member can find them. That is nominative reference — describing a thing by its name — and it implies no association, sponsorship, endorsement, partnership, licence or approval in either direction, whether or not a ™ or ® symbol is shown.
Nothing on Splitscreen is official, and we make no claim about any game’s rules, ranks, seasons, availability or terms of service. Playing a game is governed by that game’s own agreement with you, not by ours.
If you own a mark used on Splitscreen and would rather it were not, write to support@splitscreen.gg with the subject line Trademark. We will remove or change it, and we would rather hear from you than from a lawyer.
14.3 Yours, if you send it to us
If you send us an idea, a suggestion or feedback, you agree we may use it freely, for anything, without owing you anything for it.
15Copyright complaints
If you believe something on Splitscreen infringes your copyright, write to support@splitscreen.gg with the subject line Copyright, and include:
- your name and contact details;
- identification of the work you say has been infringed;
- where on Splitscreen the material is, precisely enough for us to find it;
- a statement that you believe in good faith that the use is not authorised by the owner, its agent or the law;
- a statement, under penalty of perjury, that your notice is accurate and that you are the owner or authorised to act for them;
- your signature, electronic or physical.
We remove infringing material when a valid notice reaches us, and we remove the accounts of repeat infringers.
16Availability and changes
Splitscreen is early access. Features arrive, change and are withdrawn. We do not promise the service will be available, uninterrupted, secure, error-free, or that data will not be lost. Maintenance, outages, third-party failures and our own mistakes all happen.
Keep your own copy of anything you would be sorry to lose. We are not a backup service and we do not undertake to preserve your content.
17Disclaimers
We do not screen members
We do not conduct criminal background checks, sex-offender-registry searches, or identity checks on members. No badge, no verification, no standing and no length of membership means a person is safe. Whether you talk to someone, share anything with them, or meet them is your decision and your risk.
Take the ordinary precautions. Meet in public the first few times. Tell someone where you are going. Do not send money to someone you met online, whatever the story is. Do not share your address, your workplace or your account credentials. If something feels wrong, leave, and report it.
The service is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, accuracy and non-infringement. We make no promise that you will find a teammate, a friend or a partner, that anyone will reply to you, or that any member is who they say they are.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain warranties to be excluded. Where that is the case, this section applies to the greatest extent that jurisdiction allows, and your statutory rights are unaffected.
18Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Sterango LLC and its members, managers, officers, employees, contractors and agents are not liable to you for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, lost goodwill, service interruption, or the cost of substitute services, arising out of or connected to your use of the service, however caused and on any theory of liability.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for the conduct of any member or any third party, whether online or offline, including offensive, harmful, defamatory, fraudulent or unlawful conduct, and including any physical or emotional harm arising from a meeting between members.
Where liability cannot be excluded, our total liability to you for all claims relating to the service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose, or one hundred United States dollars (US$100).
Nothing here excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded — including liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud.
19Indemnity
You agree to indemnify, defend and hold harmless Sterango LLC and the people listed in section 18 from any claim, demand, loss, liability, damage, cost or expense — including reasonable legal fees — arising out of your content, your use of the service, your breach of these Terms or of the law, or your dealings with another member.
20Governing law and disputes
These Terms, and any dispute arising out of them or out of your use of Splitscreen, are governed by the laws of the State of Texas, United States of America, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules and without regard to the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods.
You and we agree that any such dispute will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Texas, and each of us consents to the personal jurisdiction of those courts and waives any objection to that venue.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, each of us waives any right to a trial by jury, and claims may be brought only individually — not as a plaintiff or class member in any class, collective, consolidated or representative proceeding.
Before filing anything, please write to support@splitscreen.gg. Most things are cheaper to fix than to litigate, and we would rather fix them.
If you are a consumer resident somewhere whose law gives you rights that cannot be overridden by agreement, this section applies only so far as that law allows, and those rights stand.
21Changes to these Terms
We may change these Terms. When we do, we will update the effective date at the top of this page, and for a material change we will give notice through the service or by email before it takes effect.
Continuing to use Splitscreen after a change takes effect means you accept the new Terms. If you do not accept them, delete your account.
22General
- Whole agreement. These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between us about the service, and replace anything said before.
- Severability. If any part is held unenforceable, it is narrowed only as far as needed, and the rest stays in force.
- No waiver. If we do not enforce something, we have not given up the right to enforce it later. A right under section 12 that we decline to use once remains available every time after.
- Assignment. You may not assign or transfer these Terms. We may, to an affiliate or in connection with a merger, acquisition or sale of assets.
- No third-party beneficiaries. Nobody outside this agreement gains rights under it, except the people protected by sections 18 and 19.
- Force majeure. Neither of us is liable for a failure caused by something outside our reasonable control.
- Language. These Terms are written in English, and the English text governs.
